Help needed with PTSA financial reconciliation
Each PTA must have a financial reconciliation conducted by a three-person committee at the end of the year to make sure the PTA is following proper protocol and to give suggestions for how to do things better. The reconciliation should take just a few hours from beginning to end and it's no problem if the committee members live far apart as they can take turns with the books and each fill out a reconciliation checklist.

Here is information from TX PTA about how to do a reconciliation.

The treasurer will turn the books over to the committee chair shortly after the close of the school year and the reconciliation takes place whenever convenient over the summer.

Please email lbjlasaptsa@gmail.com if you'd like to help.
    Project Graduation
$15 Project Graduation tickets are available online until 5/29. Tickets will be sold for cash or check (made out to LBJ/LASA PTSA) at graduation practice, Senior Salute, and at the door for $20, but for planning purposes we'd like everyone to have their tickets by 5/28 please.

We still need lots of help with the event (the sign up is only 29% full) and we especially need someone to set up and monitor the movie room, folks to set up/decorate, and dealers for the casino. Sign up to volunteer.

    Can't volunteer? Consider donating online.
    Graduation gown donation
Seniors and senior parents: We will be collecting graduation gowns for use by future seniors at Project Graduation or at the LASA office through the summer. Please let us know if you would like to donate your gown by filling out this form.
LASA Academic World Quest Team takes 4th place at nationals
Please congratulate the four students below and their coach Mr.Moody if you see them.
    Anish Katta
    Ojas Ahuja
    Harrison Tran
    Evan Hochstein

On April 28th, they competed at the Academic World Quest national competition in Washington, D.C. and came in 4th in the nation. They were competing against 45 other 4 person teams from all around the country. This is a big accomplishment for the three seniors and one junior and who worked a lot to prepare. All first place winning teams from regional competitions around the country compete at nationals. Our team won 1st in Austin back in February.

Academic World Quest is the flagship program of the World Affairs Councils of America that engages more than 4,000 high school students annually across the U.S. to test their knowledge of global issues and foreign policy.
LASA math students selected for Texas ARML team
Four members of the LASA math club have been selected to represent Texas at the 2018 American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) meet. Junior Jessica Ding and sophomore Alexander Burton have made the Texas ARML team for the second year in a row, while sophomore Keyu Chen and freshman Nir Elber are newcomers to the team. These students are joining their other Texas teammates from May 30 through June 3 for practices and competition at the University of Iowa.

ARML is an annual contest among regional teams of top high school math students from across the country. The competition consists of several events, including a team short-answer round, a power question (in which a team solves proof-oriented questions), an individual round, and two relay rounds (in which a contestant solves a problem and passes his/her answer to the next team member, who uses this answer to solve another problem, and so on).

The selection process for the 45-member Texas ARML team is very competitive, with outstanding performance in competitions such as the American Mathematics Competitions series a prerequisite for consideration. Having four LASA students make the team is a great accomplishment. Please congratulate Jessica, Alexander, Keyu, and Nir for their well-earned recognition and wish them luck in Iowa City.
LASA student wins TX State Jr. Varsity Mountain Biking Championship
The Texas High School Mountain Bike League, a division of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, provides competitive mountain biking for students in grades 6 to 12. The league hosts five mountain bike races across Texas each spring where Texas student athletes set and accomplish competitive goals, improve their skills and achieve their personal best while developing a lifelong passion for cycling.

On Sunday April 22, Texas High School Mountain Bike League hosted the state series finals at Dinosaur Valley State Park with more than 400 middle and high school student athletes from 25 teams participating from across Texas. LASA student Logan Poore placed first in junior varsity competition with a finishing time of 1:20:55. This secured his overall state series win to become the Junior Varsity Texas State Champion for 2018. Logan's coaches and parents are proud of his dedication and sportsmanship this season.
