DOWNLOAD REPORT AN ABSENCE FORM

New for the 2023-2024 school year

AISD is implementing a new system utilizing the "Report an Absence" form.

How to submit an attendance note:

1. Download the Report an Absence form and fill it out.

2. Email it to attendance@lasahighschool.org along with ANY DOCUMENTATION* NEEDED.

*you will still need to send in documentation like doctor's notes, a copy of the driver's permits, etc. along with the form. Please note that you will need to use a Gmail account in order to access the fillable form.

Arriving to Campus Late

Students need to check in at the LASA office when they arrive late to campus.

If the student is coming from a doctor’s appointment, please make sure he/she obtains a note from the doctor’s office to excuse the absence or tardy. If the student forgets one, please have the doctor’s office fax one over to the LASA office (512-414-6050)

Signing Out a Student

When the parent/guardian is coming to pick up your child for an appointment or other circumstance:

  1. Come into the building to sign them out at the Attendance Office or Main Office.

  2. Make sure you bring your ID with you (even if you are already in the system). LASA will need to scan your ID in order to sign out your student.

  3. We will locate your child and get them to the office. ***

***DO NOT TEXT YOUR STUDENT TO MEET YOU. IN MOST CASES, YOUR STUDENT'S PHONE IS NOT AVAILABLE DURING CLASS ***

Helpful Tip : To help facilitate signing out your student, if possible, please send a note with your child earlier that day or email a note to Ms. V, stating you will need them to be in the office for pick up at a designated time. The student will need to bring that note to the office and get a temporary pass to get out of class to meet you in the office at an assigned time. This speeds things up immensely.

If someone else will be picking up your student:

  1. Make sure that person is on the list to pick up your student. The list is part of your AISD registration information.

  2. If the person is not listed on your student's record then LASA will need something in writing from the parent, saying that he/she is giving permission for this person to pick up the student. This person will need to come to the LASA office and show his/her ID to sign out the student.

Your child drives themselves to and from school and needs to leave for an appointment:

  1. Send your student with a note, or you can email attendance@lasahighschool.org saying that you are giving them permission to drive themselves to the appointment and what time they will need to leave. Please do this day of the appointment to avoid the note/email getting lost.

  2. Your student will receive a pink “TEMPORARY” pass that will get them from class to the office to sign out. Signing out is a big must so please remind them to do that.

Someone other than who’s on your contact list picking up your child:

  1. Send an email to attendance@lasahighschool.org or send your child with a note letting LASA know someone else (neighbor, sibling, grandparent, etc) is picking them up.

  2. Remind that person that they will need to come to the office to sign out the student and they must show their ID to be able to check your student out.

Student was Absent/Returning Back to Campus

If your child was absent, you can either send a note with them when they return, or you can send an email to attendance@lasahighschool.org. In your note/email, make sure you include your student’s full name along with the date of the absence and the reason why they were out. Official documentation will be needed to excuse appointments (medical, Immigration, PT, DPS).

When your student is coming in late or returning from an appointment:

  1. The student should go to the attendance office or the main office to be signed in before heading to class.

  2. If they have an excuse note with them, please have them write their student ID# on it before turning it in to the attendance office.

College Visits

Per AISD policy students are allowed 2 EXCUSED visits per school year. This policy is only for Juniors and Seniors. 9th or 10th graders that decide to do a college visit will not be excused. This doesn’t include travel for the college visit.

In order for the visit to be excused, a student will need to turn in EITHER:

  1. A note from the college/ university with a signature and specific date of visit OR

  2. Email confirmation (forwarded to LASA attendance clerk) the student received when he/she first signed up for the college visit. Make sure it has the specific date of the college visit.
